Where the hell was shaw supposed to go?  He shouldered him to the head. 1 game max despite my despise for the haws.  These discipline videos should just be a 10 second clip of Shananigans giving the finger while buttman is the background showing is bare ass.

Do you mean to tell me that the league watched his reaction and couldn’t see it for what it is?!

It’s absolutely pathetic.

I think the disciplinarians should have to create videos to justify non-suspensions.  It’s easy to say that Shaw hit Smith in the head, thus he gets suspended.  It’s not so easy to be taken seriously standing in front of a green screen that is showing replay after replay of the Weber-on-Zetterberg “play” and justify why Weber is being allowed to continue playing.

Even as a hawks fan, I can’t call it biased against Chicago, just stupid.  A bias would have meant Shanahan was pro-Detroit, which he clearly isn’t with the way he blew the Weber non-call.  That should have been a 3 gamer in itself for the head slam.  Deliberate, blatant and intended to injure, hoping to break Z-Bergs face/nose   But Shaw?  Like Yimmy said above, 2 for goalie interferance and 2 to Smith for diving… done.  Even the yotes knew it was bs and no one, absolutely NO ONE took a run at Shaw in retaliation.  They didn’t speak up because A: they were in shock at the call and B: just happy to get a power play out of it, and a 5 minute one at that.

Shanahan is just trying to make up for letting the Pens/Flyers and Rangers/Ottawa series get out of control.. not to mention that the guppies/blues isn’t the cleanest of affaiirs.

3 for Duncan Keith would have been appropriate, but 5 was a joke.

At this point, I’m absolutely shocked that Dustin Brown didn’t get a 5 game shanaban for the best and cleanest hit of the playoffs when he smoked the last sister standing.

And where does it all lead us?  Punks like Cindy Crosby running around like an a-hole, starting more crap, running away and living to skate another day…

not into a space already occupied by a player he is not allowed to make contact with…

i obviously dont think the amount of this suspension is in line with others, but i think this was a reckless play by shaw.

During the hearing, through subtle questioning, Shanhan discovered that, unlike himself, Shaw did NOT admire Fidel Castro.  Three games.

jwad is right.  It was Shaw’s job to avoid Smith, and Shaw failed.  So even if it wasn’t intentional, it was reckless.  “Oops I didn’t mean it” really isn’t a good defense when you run into a goalie.  It makes sense for the league to go farther to protect goalies.  You can’t judge this like a hit on any other player.  Even as a Hawks fan I think a suspension makes sense.  Don’t know about three games, though.

But that doesn’t mean Shanahan isn’t an idiot.  He is.  Letting Weber off the hook was so ridiculous it should be a career-ending move for Shanny.  Now he’s trying to fix his mistake and it can’t be fixed.

Obviously Shaw needed to borrow the script Lucic used after he ran Miller. Either that or Shanahan’s just a hack and NHL discipline is terrible. It’s probably the latter - funny how they found the quote about goaltender’s not being fair game when the goalie of the team the NHL owns is the victim of the act, rather than when the perpetrator plays for a team that’s clearly gotten favored status from the league office.

Lets see how the league reacts today after all the new suspensions have come out.

No call on Torres last night by 4 officials is even worse than the Shanny-Management.

Shame on the Coyotes color man for stating there was nothing wrong with the hit.  He needs to go look at the ‘current’ rules.

What does it take to hire some qualified officials and put together an educated board to oversee this?  The cost of a decent hockey ticket is easily a $100 at most arenas around the country so somebody is make some $$$$.
