Why would you do that to someone?

Easy call. The correct call was made. Ference was an idiot here and should have to sit a few games.

How stupid can a player be?  It is time for Shanahan to really throw the books at a Boston player and, since Ference is really a player, he should be it.  Those clowns have no regard for the health and welfare of the opponents.

If he is not suspended at least 10 games, all opponents should take matters in to their own hands.  Start spearing all Boston players at every opportunity.  Rupture a few spleens or kidneys and the Boston team might stop playing so callously.

As bad a hit as this was…if McDonagh’s head would’ve been down just a little bit this could’ve been devastating. The force with which he went into the boards was tremendous. Un-fu*king-believable.

Doc is right. These kinds of hits need to be dealt with severely…as in 10 games minimum. Do it a second time, 25 games. Third time, 82 games.

As the announcer stated, it probably will take for a player not to get up from one these garbage plays before the league does something useful regarding discipline.

At first Shanahan was coming down hard on anything and everything…about a month into the season (and GM’s bitching every night to the MSM) he backed off, and the hits continue. Time to really put people butts in the press box for several weeks. The players, especially those in Boston, aren’t getting it.

Watching both feeds a few times, it really doesn’t seem like Ference actually delivered much of a hit.  The contact was much less than it sounds like and looks like at first glance.  Another thing I notice is that he didn’t push him in the back like a lot of those committing the idiotic boarding penalties.  I realize many will likely disagree wholeheartedly with this, but I think the call was sufficient (and led to the GWG for NYR).  I don’t think supplemental discipline is necessary, again, when watching the replays multiple times from multiple angles, although I imagine he will get at least a few games.

When on skates, it doesn’t take much to cause someone to lose balance in control, especially when you don’t see it coming.

I called Ference a goon on some thread last week and had a Boston fan take serious issue with my assessment of his play and character. Wow. I hope McDonagh suffers no lingering effects from that hit.

Wow, defending this play as most Bruins fans inevitably do, is really an indication of how messed up the game is. Ference dumps the puck, keeps full speed, and targets the player who goes after it from behind, then hits them far enough from the boards to cause a devastating impact when McDonagh goes into them. It’s blatant, cheap, intimidation and displays a clear willingness to injure the other player, if not definitive intent.

This is what the encouragement of the NHL for Julien’s bully hockey tactics have done. It’s all over the NHL now. Don’t take a chance of letting the other team play clean hockey, just go for the kill. Miller, Mcdonagh, Pacioretty, Salo. Guys are having their careers affected and the NHL is basically playing cheerleader.

I see 1-2 games tops.  Shanny seems to have lost his balls…especially when it comes to Boston.

Ference has a phone hearing, meaning no more than five games.

Finally someone else that doesn’t get why everyone is acting like this is the worst hit they’ve ever seen!  Thank you.

nhljeff, watch ferences skates before the hit.  6 strides. into mcdonaugh. into the boards.

how often do you see those textbook examples of charging, which happens tobe hitting from behind and boarding?  i would give him 5 games at the minimum. i see why people dont think its bad, but you gotta see he’s pretty much constantly striding as he rolls over mcdonaugh.

its not mcdonaugh’s job to take a hit in the numbers like that.

It is not the worst hit I have ever seen.  It is probably the biggest attempt at the worst hit I’ve ever seen, that I’ve ever seen.

Lucic was giving him little rabbit punches in the chin after the whistle earlier in the game, so no doubt McDonough “crossed the line” and “had it comin’”.  May the roughest team dispense the most righteous justice.
Lucic was heard to utter, “whatya gonna do?  I’m 240.  You can’t call a tough guy over.  You think the ref cares what I do to you after the whistle?”
Now that’s hockey.  I can’t wait until every team has a 300 lb fronkenstein to “stand up for themselves” - cause it works so well.  Get one of those guys on each team and you got the cleanest game you’ve ever seen.  Right guys?  Like the ‘70s and ‘80s…so clean right?
Down with the instigator, up with the bully.
GO BRUINS
Thanks again Coley.
