Video- Aaron Rome’s Five Minute Major For Elbowing

Devante Smith-Pelly was the recipient last night and did return to the game while Rome also received a game misconduct.

It’s amazing to me that people are not learning.
It’s time for Shanahan to start escalating penalties for hits like this.

There was nothing about hockey in this, it was simply an opportunity to injure someone.

I would say the 20 game suspension the OHL handed out for that slash should be the starting point for something like this. Or maybe 40, call it 41 just to start getting the message across.

Showed that to my wife who’s canadian, from peterborough. She figured the guy should be out of hockey forever because he obviously has anger management issues and shouldn’t be allowed to be put in a position to injure someone again.

Remember when Rome did this in the Cup finals and everyone felt bad for him?  He knows EXACTLY what he’s doing.

An elbow to the head like that should fall under the “attempt to injure” umbrella and should be penalized as follows:

1st offense: 10 games w/o pay
2nd offense: 20 games w/o pay
3rd offense: 40 games w/o pay
4th offense: 80 games w/o pay

They’d stop doing it.

I remember the first part, but not the second.  Unless “everyone” means Vigneault and the crybaby Canucks fans…

Rome is one of those players that if he didn’t play for a huge market Canadian team no one would know who the hell he was.  He’s the west coast equivalent of Jay Rosehill.

Dirtbag move, I am not so sure he will get suspended. The hit is high, but appears to get chest. Fortunately he cost the Canucks the game, by motivating Anaheim.

No suspension or finer per NHL.

It’s easy to jump all over Rome after his elbow on Nathan Horton during the finals. However, this hit did not appear to have nearly the amount of damage, and was more of a late hit on a guy who had his head down looking for the puck than anything.

The Sportsnet panel (who are from Toronto, BTW) seemed to think the hit was deserving of a two-minute penalty and nothing more. Smith-Pelly’s nose was broken, but he was back out there for the five-minute power play.
