I do not understand why Laviolette was so angry here.  After the Schenn “character” cross check on Crosby, and with Bylsma having the last change, he had to expect that if Schenn got out there again someone would go after him.  That being said, it was a clean hit by Vitale on Briere, but that’st he way it goes.

That being said, the Pens played like shit after the first 15 minutes of the game.  They need to get it together and if this is the impetus for it, then so be it.

There’s this as well:
@MolinariPG
Bylsma says Laviolette breaking stick on glass and it ending up on Pgh. bench triggered exchange between coaches.

Crosby got away with slashing players left and right entire game.

He had some slashes. But nothing he did warranted a cheap shot cross-check from a nobody like Schenn. The Flyers got their panties in a bunch over a clean hit and resorted to fighting. Nothing the Penguins did in the last 1:13 was out of line. The Flyers responded like babies is the problem here.

You mess with Crosby, Malkin, Letang, expect to be dealt with. If you have a problem with what the Penguins did, take it up with Schenn. Take it up with the defenseman who sacrificed Briere to Vitale. I applaud what the Penguins did. It was clean. It wasn’t cheap like the Islanders’ goonfest in February 2011. A team has to stand up for itself and its stars.

There is no “problem” here.
Just a few fights, some yelling, and some entertaining tv.
Nothing bad happened.

Last five minutes of this game was awesome. Can’t wait for the playoffs. Only person who did anything I have a problem with was Laviolette.

No idea why he would lose it like this. Or why he doesn’t know that Vitale/Asham/Adams takes the ice for the shift after every PP all year unless Staal didn’t get any ice time. Coaches normally have to know things like that so they can line match.

Course, if I were a ref, I’d have chucked him much earlier in the game. He was being over-the-top disrespectful to the officials over, I think, a no-brainer too many men on the ice call.

The Problem as it has been for 3 seasons is the Pens PP Is a Putrid Joke of a PP. Up 2-0 with a chance to get a goal on the PP Jack Adams puts out 5 Forwards on the PP which has sucked since tried & they Failed Miserably & the Momentum changed right then & their. Now old Flashy will come along & say where they are ranked & everything But in big Moments this PP has Sucked for 3 seasons

And it will be the reason that they Lose to Phillthy in the 1st rd. 3rdseason in a row But Ray(In Shero we trust) Shero doesn’t have any problem with Jack Adams strangling the life out of the team & especially the crowd with a Putrid PP.

First, nice clean open-ice hit, nothing really wrong with it and the kind of hit that you want to see in hockey.

Now for the rest of the idiotic comments by the Pens supporters. One, Crosby broke not one, but two sticks across Flyers legs with 0 penalties called. And for his trouble, ooh, he takes a measly cross check to the back. Sorry, I’ve seen worst taken by guys in front of the net (I’m sure Holmstrom’s taken much worse over his career). Seriously though, Sid has to stop crying all the time. He didn’t need to yap at Laviolette at the end of the game like that either. He needs to learn to just shut-it and play. Until he does, he’ll get chopped at, cross-checked and anything else after the play because it takes him off his game (and Malkin too). You should be more worried that the Flyers have shown how to beat the Pens, take it to them, they don’t like being hit or even pushed back at a little. Malkin can’t take any kind of physical contact all of a sudden and Crosby, while looks like he’s more willing to go into those areas of the ice, still seems a tad sensitive when it comes to the physical area.

And finally, Pens fans, ask yourself this question, if it had benn Rinaldo checking Crosby or Malkin like that at the end of a 6-3 game, what would you have wanted Bylsma’s reaction to be?

via Sam Carchidi of Broad Street Bull,

After the comeback win, Laviolette criticized Penguins coach Dan Bylsma for putting out his goon-type players at the end. Several scrums erupted after an open-ice hit by the Penguins Joe Vitale leveled Danny Briere with 1:03 to play.

“Those guys hadn’t played in 12 minutes,” Laviolette said of the Pens’ late lineup. “It was a gutless move by their coach.”

Said Penguins star Sidney Crosby: “I’m sure (Laviolette) doesn’t like to see one of their top players getting hit… Maybe he shouldn’t have put him out there.”

Bylsma complained about Brayden Schenn hitting Crosby late in the game.

“That’s clearly a cheap shot, clearly a guy targeting a player,” Bylsma said.

little Hypocritical for anyone in the flyers organization to complain about icing a line of goons.

Laviollette is kind of a moron.  What exactly is he angry about?  What did he expect to happen after seeing Schenn out there.

Either way, it seems like the flyers have the pens number right now.  Both teams are going to be so damn beat up after the series that they most likely will not make it past the second round.

If it was a clean hit like that, I’d be pissed at Bylsma for putting either Crosby or Malkin out there in a game that was out of reach.  It’s hockey, hits happen.  I wouldn’t want Vitale to play it any other way there.  And knowing Rinaldo, we will just have to wait until next weekend for him to do something dumb.

As far as Crosby and Laviolette, maybe if Laviolette didn’t act like a child and break sticks nothing would have happened.  While Schenn’s cross check wasn’t anything that warranted a suspension, you don’t do that to a team’s top player.  Had it been Adams on Giroux, I’m sure you would have wanted a response there.

Where’s the talk about Malkin’s take down of Giroux and punch to the back of the head?  Good on Schenn for going after their talent in response.  And Cindy did plenty of slashing all night.  Little ____ can dish it out, but apparently can’t take it.  And how the League protects the actions of this effete arse is beyond annoying.

If the Flyers were really that irritated at Crosby, there’s ways to get him out of the game.

Honestly, and entertaining game, but all the BS by both teams was a bit deep. Given that I don’t have a horse in this race, it’s fan to sit back and watch it go.

That said…no excuses…save the energy for the next two months. I think one of these teams will need it.

They weren’t trying to take Crosby out. NHL on the Fly showed a replay I hadn’t seen (imagine that, NBC not showing something) where Crosby takes a shot at Schenn after he ices the puck after the none-goal call. The cross-check was retaliation for that. That’s what I"m talking about with Sid and his whining. He initiated the whole thing and still cries about whatever he gets. Besides, the Pens shouldn’t be worrying about any kind of payback, they should be worried about the tan Fleury’s got from the red light going on behind him so much lately.

the reason Asham and Adams (the so called goons) was not on the ice for 12 minutes is because they shortened their bench to try abd tie the game. They started the line after theempty net goal   Het Peter STFU and look in the mirror for the dumb ass that put Briere out on the ice with 1:20 to go

I think Pens fans are funny when they feel Crosby should be above getting a cross check as if he’s somehow special, but are okay with Briere taking a clean open ice hit from “a nobody.” I seem to remember a certain #87 cross-checking Hank Zetterberg six or seven times at the end of an out of hand game.

I would want Bylsma to not throw a tantrum and act like a petulant little shit.

They probably wouldn’t have been out there with 1:13 left to go up by 3 goals anyway.  Nothing Vitale did was illegal or even close to it…and Laviolette acted like an idiot.  I would hope that the coach of the team I root for wouldn’t do that after a hit that couldn’t have been any cleaner.

If you want to go at it, us the pm feature, where other members can block out people right now.

I never understand why people take such issue with Crosby. Ever since he was injured he has been trying to improve player safety. His first step has been to follow the referee(s) around the ice and point out every infraction committed by the opposing team. It isn’t whining, he is the league’s new on-ice player safety rep.

The second point should be more obvious, he has had all of his sticks made out of balsa wood. His new sticks are intended to break on impact to protect opposing players. He has been demonstrating his high skill level by not breaking a single stick while shooting, yet still providing a non-lethal blow when hitting opponents.

I was very impressed that Sydney allowed LaViolette to demontrate one these new sticks behind the Flyers bench. With Pierre MacGuire yapping so much between the benches it was also great to see the Bylsma make such an effort to explain to LaViolette that he would provide Schenn with a similar stick and return the blade after the game.

Other than fights happening, the two incidents are nothing alike.  This wasn’t a premeditated ambush.  Now if the Pens call up Macintyre for Sunday…

Nobody thinks he is above getting hit or cross checked, but if someone does it, then the Pens or any team will have someone go at him.  It’s no different than when Sid was chopping Zetterberg and Howard came in to protect him.  That’s what a team does.

Watch the Islander Pen game again without your homer glasses on and see who started to do the chopping once they were down by 4.  I know it must be the rest of the NHL always picking on the Pens that causes them to be the ones involved in the brawls.

And I am glad to see we are all on the same mental level.

You’re an idiot. The Islanders dressed Trevor Gillies and called up Michael Haley before that game. Gillies is a goon. Haley was the team PIM leader in Bridgeport in the AHL. If there’s a bias here, it’s an anti-Penguin bias from you.
