Vernon Fiddler Traded Back To Nashville

Nashville, TN - Nashville Predators President of Hockey Operations/General Manager David Poile announced Saturday that the club has acquired forward Vernon Fiddler from the New Jersey Devils in exchange for a fourth-round selection in the 2017 Entry Draft.

Fiddler, 36 (5/9/80), has appeared in 857 NHL games over parts of 14 seasons with Nashville, Phoenix (Arizona), Dallas and New Jersey. He has recorded 260 points (103g-157a) in his career, including three points (1g-2a) in 39 games with the Devils this season. The Edmonton, Alberta, native earned an assist on a third-period goal on Dec. 3, 2016, against the Predators at Bridgestone Arena.

Originally signed by Nashville in 2002 as an undrafted free agent, Fiddler spent six seasons with the Predators from 2002-09, totaling 93 points (45g-48a) in 305 games. He earned a career-high 32 points (11g-21a) with the Preds in 2007-08.

If you’re Mike Ribiero, it says something when Vernon Fiddler is a preferable option to you…

So now we know what Ott’s basic value is – if you have a competent GM making the trade.

amazing the return one can sometimes get when trading out of opportunity, not out of
need and a totally obvious lack of leverage!

I think Ribiero might have some past demons coming back at him. Nashville originally signed him as a reclamation project and it worked out well. Now, they are willing to cast him aside for a lower production asset. That says something.

Ott should have value, not much but some to the right team. But he’s the kind of player Holland will hang onto way too long.
