I’m beginning to think there’s some kind of conspiracy against the Red Wings this year.

Well, if Ehrhoff really is the type of free agent who’d sign with the Islanders, I’m guessing he’s not the type of player you guys would really want in Detroit.  But we’ll see; a couple days in that organization might have him running for the hills.

First Nabokov, and now Ehrhoff.
The Isle’s are stockpilling quite a lineup of players who will never play for them.
Garth Snow is a genius.

This has the potential to drive the price for UFA d-men waaay up, even moreso than the overpayment Markov and Bieska got.  The Isles need to add like $20 mill just to get to the cap floor.  The only way I see them signing him is with crazy money.

Ken Holland is either working on some kind of secret, brilliant trade, or he’s content to shop in the garbage bin this year.

Don’t pretend that Ehrhoff wasn’t part of that garbage bin.

If Ehrhoff signs, the contract will be structured like this

1 mil
1 mil
4 mil
7 mil
12 mil
12 mil

There’s a ton of guys on LI with low cap hits that are set to make big dollar amounts in a few years. Wang and Snow have been promising money they’re not even sure they will have.

I wouldn’t be surprised if Big Bert is making a case for Tick Tock to sign Jovo, and if Wisniewski doesn’t sign with Detroit, it wouldn’t be out of the question to see Andy Greene come home.

I’m not an Ehrhoff fan - he was awful in the Finals - but I can’t see him signing in New York for three reasons:

1) Whatever deal he gets will be heavily backloaded. See the Grabner deal for how the Islanders will be operating.

2) It’s his first chance to test the market. He won’t pass that up.

3) Who wants to play for the Islanders?

Alright wings fans calm down, you guys are starting to act like leaf/habs fans.  This gonna happen with every potential free agent?  Oh no Laich is gone.  Oh no Erhoff is gone.  Let me know somebody actually worth what they’ll be paid comes along.  And no andy greene or wisniewski is not one of them.  Let the Islander’s have Erhoff, though I don’t whether they’ll even sign him.

If he signs he goes from being 60 minutes away from the cup to being eliminated from the playoffs in early February lol

i hope Mike Gillis has made sure to trade Ehrhoff to an Eastern team who will actually sign him, rather than taking the best draft pick available. And if the Isles can get him signed, they’ll be contenders next year - look at their great form over the second half of last season, and then add Streit and Ehrhoff into the mix…

Thats just silly. Markov, I don’t really care about, but 4.6 for Bieksa is very fair.  There is no doubt that another team would have thrown more money at him.

Why is it so tough for Wing fans to see that Vancouver is another team “guys want to play for…”?

The price for UFA defensemen is always pretty crazy, no matter what else is going on. It’s just that this year there is the cap floor going up, combined with a dearth of available players, and this year Red Wings fans actually notice because the team needs one of the players in demand. The last several years all the team has been doing is plugging spare holes, so they could laugh at other teams throwing money at someone like Brett Lebda.

This season they are in the uncomfortable position of needing to fill a hole they thought they had filled with Rafalski for another season, and it is easier to notice the costs when you are in the position of paying them.

Oops, your inferiority complex is showing!

If Vancouver is a team that guys want to play for, then why did Vancouver have to overpay to keep a guy who was already playing for them?

And if you think he wasn’t overpaid, you haven’t watched him or you have no understanding of value.
