The Vancouver Canucks have signed defenceman Alexander Edler to a six-year contract extension worth a total of $30 million.
Appearing in all 82 games with the Canucks last season, Edler scored 11 goals and added 38 assists, tying him for sixth amongst NHL defenceman in points.
Edler is entering the fourth season of a four-year deal he signed with the Canucks prior to the 2009-10 season. That deal paid him an annual average salary of $3.25 million.
The 26-year-old Swede has appeared in 386 career NHL games with the Canucks recording 43 goals and 141 assists and 200 penalty minutes. He was originally drafted by Vancouver in the third round (91st overall) of the 2004 NHL Entry Draft.
