Update on Belle Tire/London Knights goalie Ian Jenkins’ condition: still fighting

Our sincerest apologies, good thoughts and prayers go out to the family and friends of Belle Tire goaltender and London Knights prospect Ian Jenkins. I just spoke to his coach for six years, Detroit Honeybaked’s Mike Hamilton, who’s a family friend of the Jenkins,’ and he confirms that the London Free Press’s report of Jenkins’ passing, as posted here on Kukla’s Korner, is misspoken.

Mr. Hamilton says that Ian is still fighting, and as there are conflicting reports abounding, we’d like to ask you to please send your thoughts and prayers to Ian, his family, friends, schoolmates, teammates, coaches, the Belle Tire and London Knights families and everybody involved and please hold off on the Tweets, Facebook posts and the rest until the family informs us of a change in Ian’s condition.

The family needs its privacy and the family needs to be with Ian right now. As we’ve all learned over the past few weeks, breaking the story doesn’t matter—getting it right does—and Ian is still fighting.

How you report someone has died not to mention a 15 year old kid with out actually knowing 100percent is beyond on me.

That’s a good question. I sat on the London Free Press article for 12 hours because there were conflicting reports, and when the morning came and the article seemed to be clarified, I posted it.

I don’t know what the heck to say other than the truth—the information out there is incorrect and I shouldn’t have posted a thing till I checked more thoroughly.

With the rag in your city (especially it’s sport section) you should be used to it.

Let it be, please. I can take the slings and arrows. Sending good thoughts toward Ian and his family is what matters now.

You have apologized, nothing else is needed.  Even his own father posted something similar that he had passed so it’s an honest mistake.

Mr. Malik-While this is a tragic situation and we are all heart broken, it is not your fault so you should not be issuing your “sincerest apologies.”  This makes it sound like it was your fault and begs the question-were you the one who did this to Ian? Are we not getting the full story?
