Every player on Canada's men's hockey team plays in the NHL. Just three of Switzerland's players are on NHL rosters. You know where this is going. There was another upset in hockey. This time Switzerland pulled off the shocker, defeating Canada 2-0 in a Group A game. It was Switzerland's first victory over Canada in Olympic hockey history.update 12:51pm, more from the IIHF. update 2:43pm, from Phil Coffey of NHL.com,
For Canada, the most pressing part of their game would be the ability to finish on the power play, something Heatley said is a work in progress. "It's something we're working on," Heatley said of the Canadian power play. "We're getting used to each other and how to move the puck." Perhaps with a little more urgency after this defeat.more update 5:05pm, from Scott Burnside via ABC,
Is this one wacky hockey tournament or what? What's that? You can't hear me? That's because 4,000 zany Swiss fans, who somehow managed to smuggle giant cow bells into the Torino Esposizioni, are jumping up and down and singing and jingling in celebration of their national team's biggest hockey win, a 2-0 tilt over defending gold-medal winner Canada. "La Suisse, La Suisse, La Suisse" they chanted over and over, waving their red-and-white flags and jingling those bells. Want to know the weird part?more
