Uh Oh, Vegas City Officials Making Parade Plans

from Mick Akers of the Las Vegas Sun,

The Golden Knights are four wins away from capturing the Stanley Cup in their inaugural season, but Las Vegas and Clark County officials are already making tentative plans for a celebration.

“I think this has to be a big, blowout celebration,” Las Vegas Mayor Carolyn Goodman said as the Golden Knights prepared to face the Washington Capitals at home on Monday for Game 1....

Clark County Commission Chairman Steve Sisolak said he’s already talked to Metro Police and the county’s Department of Public Works about a potential parade. The one group that doesn’t want to get ahead of things, however, is the Golden Knights, he said.

“The Golden Knights really don’t want to have this discussion; there’s some level of superstition involved,” Sisolak said. “They don’t want to jinx anything revolving around any celebrations regarding their playoff success.”

Jesse Granger tweets,

Just talked with Golden Knights president Kerry Bubolz, who said the team has had NO preliminary discussions about a championship parade as of now, & that reports by Las Vegas & Clark County officials have nothing to do with VGK.

The Golden Knights will head any planning of a possible parade (if needed) but said nothing of the sort has begun with a series still to be won.

VGK will be reaching out to govt. officials to make sure they are aware of that.

I do not see this as a big deal, Toronto makes parade plans at the start of every season.

Cuban, I came here to pick that same low-hanging fruit! With all that expertise, Vegas should definitely call them in as consultants.

Planning a parade route now is actually perfect timing for Vegas.

Nobody can beat them mentally right now. If Wash tries to use something like this as motivation, it will be the nail in the coffin.

Well rest assured a parade will be held win or lose.

Not sure which will be a bigger celebration….Fans of the team for a Cup, or the Sports Books for saving $$$$....

Given that it’s roughly a 50/50 chance at this point, this is basically due diligence.  Cities have contingency plans for much less likely things.

It’s rumored bookies are trying to influence the outcome of the series. And so it begins.

Smart bookies don’t lose. They set odds based on bets placed and have action on both sides to support it.

Some individual gamblers might want to influence the series but, in general, a bookie just wants to see lots of bets placed.
