from Jason Mackey of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette,
Tyler Kennedy would like to play at least one more NHL season, but he knows the odds are stacked against him.
Speed, and not size, always has been one of Kennedy’s greatest assets, and he’s now a 30-year-old competing against players sometimes a decade younger. The unrestricted free agent also has scored just 13 goals since the start of the 2013-14 season.
“I hope I get something, but I don’t know if I will,” Kennedy said Monday after an informal workout at the UPMC Lemieux Sports Complex. “That’s the hardest thing. If you’re doing all this work and you don’t know if you’re going to play … you can’t really beg someone to sign you.”
His NHL career in trouble after 527 games, including 372 with the Penguins from 2007-13, Kennedy begrudgingly has had to confront the reality of planning his next move, something he would rather not do.
