Just a few days ago, this was Rask on Thursday after losing to the Canes, via the Boston Globe,

“To be honest with you, it doesn’t really feel like playoff hockey because there’s no fans. It’s kind of like you’re playing an exhibition game. Obviously, there are some scrums after the whistle. I haven’t noticed that they would be targeting me or what not. Things happen, people falling on you and what not. But it’s definitely not a playoff atmosphere.”

You’re trying to play as hard as you can,’’ he said. “Obviously, you’re playing a best-of-seven series so there’s going to be some battles going on and whatnot. But when you play at your home rink, you play at an away rink, and there’s fans cheering for you or against you and that creates another buzz around the series. There’s none of that, so it just feels dull at times.

There are moments that — OK, there’s little scrums and whatnot. But then there might be five minutes and it’s just coast-to-coast hockey and there is no atmosphere. It just feels like an exhibition game.”

It looks like coach and mgmt from what I can see
are handling this with class.

Rask’s quote yesterday definitely raised eyebrows
- made me think: why not go with Halak if Rask isn’t in
the right frame of mind for whatever reasons (and his
numbers weren’t great). Halak is an excellent 1B goalie
with proven ability in the playoffs.

Anyone who saw Rask in the playoffs last year knows
how capable he can be when the pressure is on and how
frustrating for fans of opposing teams.

Best of luck to him and no disrespect. It’s better for your team and
teammates to be honest with yourself and them about what you need.

This isn’t inconsistent with his comments going back many months - he seemed to be fading from the game in terms of motivation, and looking forward to retirement. I also expect he’s done, at this point.

Veterans like Rask have accomplished tons, made millions, started families, and now some don’t like being in the safety bubble. Don’t forget - there are younger players absolutely loving it and looking forward to every game where they could break out. Whatever Boston 3rd string goalie is now one of them, and he deserves any game time he’ll get from Rask’s peace-out.

Without other insight, I’m not necessarily on Rask’s side in terms of leaving the team mid-series. At no point does this mean disrespect towards any player or employee opting-out of work for covid-19 reasons. But he should have opted-out from the start, not joined team, complained, and left now.

Covid-19 and all related circumstances are an absolute battle mentally for all of us. Keep up your mental health and your co-workers, friends and family, folks.

Pretty funny. Make that “who” not “ho.”

Now I can answer the question OTC, I believe it was Dan Vladar who has yet to appear in an NHL game.
