Turris Still Not Signed

from Scott Burnside of ESPN,

Turris, the third overall pick in the 2007 NHL draft, is at the end of his entry-level deal, but talks with the Coyotes have gone nowhere. Unless there is a seismic change in tenor between the two sides, it’s hard to imagine he will be at camp when the Coyotes report for physicals in Glendale, Ariz., on Sept. 16. The team’s first on-ice session is set for a day later.

In 131 NHL games spread mostly over two seasons, Turris has scored just 19 goals.  With the recent acquisition of veteran center Daymond Langkow, Turris now sits third on the team’s depth chart (at best) behind Langkow and a healthy Martin Hanzal.

Still, league sources told ESPN.com that Turris is looking for a three-year deal worth an average of slightly more than $4 million annually or a two-year deal worth slightly more than $3 million.

$4 million per?

Turris has lost his mind if he thinks he should be paid like JVR and more than Couture. He’s not only accomplished less than them, he’s accomplished less than other high profile busts like Stefan and Daigle had at this point in their respective careers.

To put Turris’ ineffectiveness into perspective, Matt Cooke and Cal Clutterbuck have 30% and 20% more offensive production (respectively) than Turris over the course of the latter’s career and, unlike Turris, both are defensive forwards (and cheapshotting bastards, but that’s beside the point I’m trying to make, which is): producing offense isn’t even part of their job.

Turris is wretched defensively, doesn’t produce offensively and hasn’t shown any signs of improvement. Why does he think he should be paid a million more than Steve Weiss?

A graduate of the Gretzky/Barnett “lets rush them to the NHL ASAP” movement. Hoping he comes around on holding out. He’s getting there, but I don’t believe he’s worth that much yet.

yah really stupid how he thinkes he’s worth that much at this stage in his development.  Considering his pts, he should be happy with 2 million, which i still think is a lot more then hes worth.

Gretzky is a great player but a horrible coach.  I have no idea how they were willing to pay him 8 million for the pos job he did with phoenix.  The only thing he did good was let the older more experienced players slack off like the great job he did with jovo.  who went from a underpaid 3.99 million dollar player in vancouver to a 3 million dollar player being paid 6.5 million in phoenix.
