Alright, now it gets to the interesting part. As in, bye-bye Clifford, because there’s only about $250K left under the cap (not up on CapGeek yet) and we’re at 24 players.

I think they can still go 10% over the cap for the summer and maintain a 25-man roster limit, but they have it trimmed down to the cap limit and a 23-man roster by the start of the training camp.

Yep, you are correct and they can go over by 10% (a la Philly et Boston) but I don’t know what the end game is here. Well, I guess I do know and just wish it was different.  I assume that Mitchell is probably LTIR, so in the end there probably won’t be a CAP issue so much as a “stash them in the minors or trade them to Philly” problem.

I’d rather see DL bump up the skill level and give guys like Tanner Pearson a chance to make the team even if it meant were slightly less physical in the bottom 6, rather than bring in Carcillo…to go along with Nolan and King, but he tends to be pretty conservative on these matters.

shazam, do not be surprised if you see a defenseman (Martinez / Ellerby / Schultz) shipped for draft picks and / or low end prospects. I think that the Kings want to retain Clifford, despite the fact that he took a step back this year. This is not lost on other teams, in addition to the fact that he did not look the same after his concussion(s).

Yeah, that’d be nice, scooter, though I wonder what sort of timeline is envisioned. Lombardi has just finished picking up the extra bodies (Schultz, re-signing Martinez…not to mention Carcillo), and also spoke of having a competitive training camp for the D corp…as if this is part of some master plan to sift through the mediocrity in the effort to find an improved #7. Anyway, if anyone can find a buyer for players this offseason (even low cap’ed players like these) it’s DL.
