"A few teams started (chartering planes) so, for everyone else to stay competitive, they did the same thing," Holik said. "At this point, I don't want to say impossible because everything is possible, but it just wouldn't work (to fly commercial now). The league is a lot more competitive than it was back then. Chartering a plane isn't a luxury, it's a necessity because the flexibility of your schedule gives you the opportunity to practice more. "If you had to follow the commercial airlines schedule, you would never have time to get quality practices in."... t doesn't always go perfectly, of course - "I'm not complaining at all, but the travel part is not as glamorous as people think," Holik said - but it's better than it was and something most people won't experience in their lifetime.
