Trade Talks Delayed- Many Teams Still In Playoff Race

Across the league, GMs are citing the shift of the trade deadline back to 40 days from the final day of the season from the old mark of 26 days as a key reason why there doesn't seem to be a high level of activity in the final days before the deadline. More teams believe they are still in the race, the GMs suggest. But few believe the salary-cap system imposed as part of last summer's new collective bargaining agreement between the league and the NHL Players' Association is a factor in sluggish league-wide trade chatter.
