This is exactly the type of deal Regier said he was going to try for; not a rental, with one more year on his contract, and adding some offense up front - and at center, no less - to try and replace the hole left when Roy went down.  Boyes obviously has talent, though it hasn’t shown up as consistently lately, but Buffalo has to be hoping he re-finds his scoring touch.  With some money coming off the books next year Buffalo has some room, but wondering if some more deals might be coming to offset some of the $4 million they’re taking on against the cap for next year (and whatever remains for this year)?  To do that for a pick in a draft that many have said may be relatively weak, compared to recent years, isn’t a terrible deal.  Of course, all depends on how Boyes works out.

Interesting deal… if Boyes’ game ever evens out and gets more consistent, he could be a steal for a 2nd round pick. But if his streakiness continues, it seems like a high price to pay for a guy that might score 35 one year and 15 the next.
