Trade Talk On Ryan O’Reilly

from TSN,

Ryan O'Reilly appears to be on the trade block once again.

TSN Hockey Insider Bob McKenzie told TSN Radio 1040 Vancouver Tuesday the Colorado Avalanche are testing the market for the centre, who is set to become an unrestricted free agent in 2016.

McKenzie says the odds are in favour of O'Reilly being traded, though a potential deal could hinge on a new contract.

"I think it's more likely O'Reilly will be traded at some point here he'll be traded," McKenzie said. "But at the same time, it will depend on what the deal is and the financial negotiations that go on with any contract."

McKenzie cautioned, however, a trade is not imminent ahead of the draft.

Wait, the Ryan O’Reilly that is 24 and scores 60 points a season? Is he a shitty teammate or something?

I’d guess they’ll wait until halfway through the season to hear offers for him.

Not a shitty teammate, but he has had them over the barrel on contract negotiations, and it leaves a sour taste.  Pretty sure they don’t have the stomach for round 2.

The Avs have some other young guys they’ll have to pay ... Landeskog, Duchene, MacKinnon.

Mostly MacKinnon, the other two are locked in for a few. But MacKinnon is gonna get a good contract and O’Reilly has already tipped the team off that he’s gonna expect a ton of cash.

So yeah, Pretty sure they don’t have the stomach for round 2.

Got it. So… do we have the stomach for it or no? I mean young and proven to be good plus born close to Detroit. I haven’t really followed him.

he would be a HUGE addition, however, Avs want a top D out of it, so considering we need that, I don’t think it’s gonna happen.  I suppose you can always find something they might want, but I suspect they’ll get a promising young D from someone for him

What do ya mean?  We’ve got Ericsson, hes a number 1-2 d, just ask Babs

But to be honest, even if we had the assets, this is Holland we’re talking about.  What does he have the stomach for these days?

Well, if they want a “promising”, Detroit MIGHT be able to fit that bill with Marchenko, Oulette or Dekeyser plus something else to sweeten the pot.

But my guess is they want something more proven. That, Detroit doesn’t have.

Either way, he’s UFA next summer so whoever he gets traded to is taking a risk so I don’t see how CO can expect to get a whopping return. They’re basically trading away a rental player for a playoff run and first shot at his bargaining rights.
