Kukla's Korner Hockey

from Rob Oiler of the Columbus Dispatch,
The most celebrated coaches ignore the weight of the world. Instead, they use the weight above the world to their advantage. Like air pressure, they press around their players on all sides, demanding the best, settling for nothing less.
Blue Jackets coach Scott Arniel sees that pressure utilized by the most successful sports franchises, including his beloved Pittsburgh Steelers, and he is pushing a similar constant and relentless force upon his players. He calls them out publicly and does not shy from labeling them soft when the description fits. Mostly, he is establishing an all-encompassing environment of expectation from which no player can escape. That he does so evenly is to his credit.
Thirty minutes before donning a Steelers hat and walking into the media interview room in Nationwide Arena yesterday, Arniel discussed how his admiration of tough but fair coaches has shaped his strategy.
