from Dave Paul of the Sarnia Observer,
The stage has been set for a stirring playoff series, should the Sarnia Sting and Owen Sound Attack meet in the first round of the OHL postseason…
Sting superstar Nail Yakupov cruised into the Owen Sound zone cut towards the middle of the ice, then, briefly, lost control of the puck.
As Yakupov tried to regain control, he reached out, putting him in a vulnerable position and Owen Sound captain Mike Halmo leveled him with a devastating hit….
Following the game, Sting coach Jacques Beaulieu said Halmo — who was assessed a charging penalty and a game misconduct — deserves a lengthy suspension for his actions.
“He left his feet,” to deliver the hit, said Beaulieu. “We went back and watched it (on replay) several times.”
Beaulieu said the side of Yakupov’s face took the brunt of the hit.
He needed, “a bunch of stitches ... and he was scraped up,” said Beaulieu, who added the team will wait to see how he feels on Sunday morning before deciding whether concussion testing will be necessary.
more and watch the hit below…

Maybe it’s too early and I haven’t eaten chow yet, but it didn’t look that dirty to me. He didn’t leap into the kids head, his head was down looked more like Halmo jumped anticipating taking on more force from the hit than he did. It was sloppy but not dirty I don’t think. Elbow didn’t stay in, pushed up on his skates to brace for the hit early, resulting in leaving your feet (as opposed to leaping towards the hittee’s head, Rinaldo). He saw a guy with his head down in the slot and burried him. Yak was leaning forward as well. Halmo not keeping his elbow down makes it look bad though, though you can see he didn’t go for the elbow. He needs to keep them tucked, but Kronwall is just learning to do this consistantly, let alone this junior kid. Little bit of blame for everyone to go around.
