Top 5 Teams At The NHL Draft

from Kevin Allen of USA TODAY,

5. Florida Panthers: One adage that NHL general managers try to remember is that sometimes the best trades are those that you don't make.

That might be very true for the Florida Panthers, who decided to keep the No. 1 pick and draft defenseman Aaron Ekblad.

Although general manager Dale Tallon received some legitimate offers for the No. 1, the return never contained players with Ekblad's potential.

He is another building block to add to Jonathan Huberdeau and Aleksander Barkov and others.

I appreciate Paul digging this up, but there are few things more worthless than an analysis of winners and losers from a draft.  If Kevin Allen wanted to write something that wasn’t pure speculation, he could analyze the 2009 draft for winners and losers.  At least there we’d have some idea of who actually panned out.  Plus, the entire premise is faulty.  The Panthers are a winner because they picked in the top three yet again?  Okay, I guess.  None of that has turned into wins on the ice for them.
