Too Much for Mogilny

The numbers are eye-popping. A whopping $7 million (all figures U.S.) for Alexander Mogilny. That's $3.5 million for each year of a new contract with the Devils or $3.5 million for each recent hip surgery. But New Jersey general manager Lou Lamoriello, never known for his largesse, is so confident he paid the the former Leafs' sniper properly, he even went over the NHL's $39 million salary cap to do it. "For what I feel we're going to get in return, yes (we're comfortable with Mogilny's contract terms)," he said yesterday from New Jersey. "We'll know better a year from now." "We're very comfortable that he's 100 per cent healthy and we felt that when Alex is 100 per cent healthy, there's things that he can do that other people can't."
