from Gary Lawless of TSN,
The Dallas Stars are 4-1-2 in their last seven, scoring 24 goals in that span and continue to lead the NHL in goals for. They’re tops in the Western Conference with a 42-21-9 mark and have a plus-22 goal differential. “Crisis? What crisis?” some Stars fans will say.
Dig a little deeper and you’ll see the Stars have also allowed 22 goals against in their last seven games and are 14-13-5 since January 1. They rank 24th in the league in goals-against average and own a team save percentage of .900, which is 29th in the NHL.
Over their last 10 games, they Stars are 4-3-3 with a team save percentage of .877 and a goals-against average of 3.30.
Dallas has been built on offence, but can they win that way when the postseason arrives? Over the last five years, no team has won the Stanley Cup without being first or second in team goals against during the regular season.
The Stars are glitzy, but until they prove otherwise they remain in the costume jewelry class. We know title rings require real gems.
