Tomorrow Is Hockey Day In Canada

from the Globe and Mail,
When Ron MacLean and the CBC crew arrived in Stephenville, Nfld., this week, they were welcomed by a headline in the local newspaper that announced the imminent broadcast of "the greatest show" about "the greatest game." Hockey Day in Canada inspires that sort of welcome. The 13½-hour salute to the game will be the CBC's sixth -- and it's become a winter tradition in this country. For Stephenville, a small town on the west coast of the island, Hockey Day also marks a respite from a tough 2005. A flood in September drove residents from their homes. Just before Christmas, the town's principal employer, the Abitibi-Consolidated pulp and paper mill, closed.
