Todd McLellan Not Happy With Another Controversial Goal

from David Pollak of Working the Corners,

“We’ve played 44 games,” he said. “I go back to the Buffalo blown call in overtime, I go back to the blown call in Winnipeg, I go to one in Minnesota and I go to the one tonight. That’s one in every 11 games.

“I understand mistakes because I make a lot of them behind the bench,” he continued. “But when you get an explanation from a group of people and it didn’t happen, it’s disappointing. It really is disappointing.

“There’s also protocol to follow in our league and that protocol is you get together and you discuss it and that didn’t happen either. Obviously I’m not very happy with it.”

I like it also as Mac is pratically saying “Hey, NHL, check this out…  once or twice it might be a coincidence, but a freakish mistake every 11 games? This gotta be persecution” at the NHL’s face

Wilson’s left skate was taken out by the Sharks’ D-man…shrugs.

How come the NHL is not willing to come out and publicly admit when it makes a mistake?  The NFL does this on a regular basis, and I think it gives great credibility to the NFL officials and the League it self.  I believe the MLB has also recently done the same thing.

I don’t blame him, it’s pretty unacceptable for this kinda thing to happen in a day and age where the games literally have so much money riding on them (and I’m not talking the gambling industry at all here, simply the consequences of even dropping from a 4 to a 5 seed and potentially losing home playoff receipts), and we have the technology to fix most of these mistakes.

He’s also probably used to this shit from having coached Tomas Holmstrom for a few years. :p

I feel like I’ve seen the Sharks on the positive end of this scenario more times than not.  No sympathy coming from me on this one.

The NHL is fuching stupid with this crap.

1.) Instead of the referees waving goals off or allowing them on the ice when its a question of interference, have the goal judges signal for a review.  Then review it at the scorers box, no going to Toronto, the on ice officials know more about what is going on in-game than someone looking at a monitor miles away from the action.  We wouldn’t be talking about this play if a sensible review process existed.

2.) Get rid of the non-reviewable scoring plays, fans don’t really like those rules, why keep em?  Disallowed goals should always be overturnable if video review determines nothing illegal occurred on the play.  That’s just fair.  Disallowed goals affect more than just the score at that moment, they can determine games.  The rules should prevent the officials from being in outcome determining situations.

3.) Make a final judgement about the goal crease.  Allow skaters in the crease or don’t.  Under the current regime, the only time goalie interference should apply is when the goalie takes hard contact from head on, or is prevented from moving laterally IMO.  Goalies should have to pay for situations in which they create contact (looking at you Pekka Rinne).
