Three Stars Of The Week

Philadelphia Flyers goaltender Martin Biron, Calgary Flames right wing Jarome Iginla and Chicago Blackhawks forward Jason Williams have been named the NHL’s ‘Three Stars’ for the week ending October 21.

FIRST STAR – MARTIN BIRON, G, PHILADELPHIA FLYERS

Biron posted a 3-0-0 record, 0.66 goals-against average, .982 save percentage and two shutouts as the Flyers won three consecutive home games. On Oct. 16, Biron made 31 saves as Philadelphia shut out the Atlanta Thrashers 4-0. Two nights later, he recorded 38 saves in another 4-0 victory, this time over the New Jersey Devils, posting his 20th career shutout. Biron finished the week by making 42 saves in a 3-2 overtime win over the Carolina Hurricanes on Oct. 20. For the season, Biron has posted a record of 6-1-0 with a 1.57 goals-against average and .952 save percentage.

SECOND STAR – JAROME IGINLA, F, CALGARY FLAMES

Iginla led all scorers for the week with eight points (3-5—8) as the Flames won two of three games. On Oct. 16, he recorded two goals and one assist as Calgary lost in a shoot-out to the Colorado Avalanche, 5-4. He followed that with two assists on Oct. 16 as the Flames defeated the Los Angeles Kings, 4-3. He finished the week by recording one goal and two assists in a 4-1 victory over the Edmonton Oilers, Oct 20. With 13 points (5-8—13) in eight games played, Iginla is tied for fourth in NHL scoring. Calgary is currently second in the Northwest Division with 10 points (4-2-2).

THIRD STAR – JASON WILLIAMS, F, CHICAGO BLACKHAWKS

Williams recorded six points (2-4—6), second among scorers for the week as the Blackhawks won two of three games. He began the week scoring Chicago’s only goal in a 3-1 loss to St. Louis, Oct 17. On Oct. 19, he recorded one assist in a 5-3 victory over the Colorado Avalanche, Oct 19 and followed that with one goal and three assists in a 6-4 victory over the Toronto Maple Leafs Oct. 20. For the season,Williams has posted seven points (3-4—7) in eight games as Chicago sits second in the Central Division with 10 points (5-3-0).
