This Had To Be A Tough Decision

from Vicki Hall of Flames Insider,

Brett Sutter planned to pick his little brother Christopher up from school this afternoon and keep his mind off the business side of hockey for a while.

The Calgary Flames slapped the 23-year-old on waivers Tuesday morning, meaning all 29 NHL teams have 24 hours to stake a claim.

For those confused about the family ties, Brett is the son of Flames general manager Darryl Sutter and nephew of head coach Brent Sutter.

“I just kind of found out this morning,” a downtrodden Brett Sutter said after practising with the Flames over at Westside Arena. “It is what it is. Whatever happens, I’ve just got to play hard and try to earn my spot on the roster.”

Not really.  I don’t think he ever really was NHL-caliber, and only got this far because of his last name.  This seems to happen a lot any more.  Notice how the sons of ex-NHLers never go undrafted, regardless of their game…
