This Can’t Happen

Easy to pick on a goalie for making this kind of Tommy Salo-esque mistake but I’m not trying to kick Mike Smith when he’s down at all.

Obviously, there was more than this one play to fault for an 8-1 Lightning loss in Boston but the bottom line, as GM Steve Yzerman has now publicly acknowledged, is that the Bolts imply need more from their goaltenders.

I’m in one of my other worlds tonight, covering XFC 13 at the St. Pete Times Forum tonight for LockedInMMA.com. If you’re a fan of that sport, please check the site out.

Back for tomorrow night’s battle of the singular team names between the Avalanche and Lightning and, on Monday, former Tampa Bay general manager and current Calgary Flames AGM, Jay Feaster, joins us on The Bolts Beat.

Some franchises are just allergic to good goaltending.

A deadline trade for Vokoun might be worth attempting, assuming that the Panthers chance of reaching the playoffs are negligible.

A more permanent solution seems difficult given the coming raise to Stamkos, unless they plan to spend up to the cap limit. There probably won’t be a lot of good and cheap alternatives on the market (as far as I know).

I wish Jack Edwards would go away.
