Kukla's Korner Hockey

This Would Probably Increase Scoring

Since the middle ages ice hockey has been played with round pucks. For obvious reasons, round pucks are predictable. So this is why we are proud to present the first non-round hockey puck, the Aalto puck.

Inspired by the free forms of the Finnish architect and designer Alvar Aalto.

The Aalto Puck is made in the same material as a regular hockey puck and behaves in the same way on ice with one fundamental difference - it has a built in randomness, it doesn't bounce as a regular puck, it can, depending on how it's hit, speed off in different ways. And more importantly, by adding an element of chance it's the most equal puck produced. Advantages are randomly given to either of the two competing teams.

more and they are looking for people to help in their research and will send you a free puck (limited quantities)...

Next they’ll introduce jagged skate blades and goalie pads with holes in them.

I love our game just fine thanks.  Keep your deformed puck in Finland.

Aside from this “puck” from being a terrible idea, scoring is not the issue in the NHL. The problem is lack of flow in gameplay, inconsistent officiating and constant tampering with the rules to manipulate the game.

I’ll trade a dozen random variance goals from a goofy puck for one beautiful tic-tac-toe snipe created using actual skill.

The game is full of these now with pucks going through 2 or 3 or more layers of sticks, skates and bodies.

Why introduce a new puck? Just teach everyone to shoot like Mikael Samuelsson.

I dub thee “Pork Chop”. Love to see the hashing going on behind the scenes to see if it was “completely over the line” for a goal or not.

The goalies would still be XXXL size and bigger than the nets and coaches like Torts would still be allowed to make paint dry.

Yeah and I’d trade any 12 of those for a pretty goal too.

If there’s a problem in the NHL where too many of the goals being scored are random ugly garbage goals (which I think there is), then they should be looking at ways to adjust the game to better allow talent to score more, not to allow random variance to simply make it harder to prevent ugly goals.

If I wanted to watch jerks randomly spinning wheels hoping to create more goals, I’d watch foosball.

I’d rather see the NHL go to full-time 4-on-4 than to introduce something like this.

Just to be clear, the NHL has no plans to change the puck.
