There Is A Problem In Calgary

from George Johnson of the Calgary Herald,

Whenever anyone wanders too close to a hot-button topic around a professional sports team, the instinctive reaction of all concerned is deny, deny! DENY!

Conveniently blame the media and try to solve the issue internally.

Airing dirty laundry in public being strictly taboo; deviating from the old ‘what’s said in the dressing room stays in the . . .’ mantra punishable by dismemberment, or worse.

Not that the captain should be singled out as the lone lamb to stubbornly stray from the flock, wander off from the safety-net system Sutter has painstakingly tried to install here since he became boss. But he is the showpiece, the star, the one they all look to. The example to follow.

This is an unspoken issue that simply has to be resolved. For the welfare of all concerned.

And if Iginla, as he steadfastly maintains, doesn’t actually believe there is a problem, well, that can only exacerbate said problem.
