The Stars From Last Week

NEW YORK (Feb. 5, 2007)—Toronto Maple Leafs goaltender Andrew Raycroft, New Jersey Devils right wing Jamie Langenbrunner and Detroit Red Wings defenseman Nicklas Lidstrom have been named the NHL’s ‘Three Stars’ for the week ending Feb. 4.

Each Monday, the NHL will recognize three players who delivered the League’s top performances over the past week.

Raycroft recorded three consecutive road victories with a 1.33 goals-against average and .960 save percentage as the Maple Leafs (26-21-6) stretched their winning streak to four games following the All-Star break. He opened the week by making 28 saves in a 4-1 victory at Carolina Jan. 30, stopped 37 of 38 shots in a 2-1 victory over the New York Rangers at Madison Square Garden Jan. 31 and made 30 saves in regulation and overtime, plus four of five in the shootout, in a 3-2 victory at Ottawa Feb. 3. Raycroft improved his overall record to 24-16-4 with a 2.91 goals-against average, .899 save percentage and one shutout.

Langenbrunner led all scorers for the week with seven points (two goals, five assists) in three games as the Devils (32-15-6, 70 points) gained five of a possible six points. He recorded three assists in a 5-4 shootout loss to the Atlanta Thrashers Jan. 30, tallied one goal and one assist in a 6-5 overtime victory at Philadelphia Feb. 1 and posted one goal and one assist in a 3-2 victory over the Buffalo Sabres Feb. 3. Langenbrunner ranks fifth in team scoring with 39 points (18 goals, 21 assists) in 53 games.

Lidstrom recorded six assists in two games as the Red Wings (33-14-6, 72 points) recorded a pair of victories. Lidstrom had three assists, including a key setup on the overtime winner by Henrik Zetterberg, in a 4-3 comeback victory at the New York Islanders Jan. 30. He notched his second consecutive three-assist game as the Red Wings defeated the St. Louis Blues 5-3 on Feb. 2. Lidstrom leads NHL defensemen in scoring with 47 points (10 goals, 37 assists) and leads the League with a +33 rating.
