The Perfect Fit For Serge Savard

from Red Fisher of the Montreal Gazette,

While we await the start of the real season following a Saturday night of interesting finales that produced several surprise matchups, the most uplifting news for Canadiens fans is a report that Serge Savard is to be named senior vice-president of hockey operations for the organization.

Radio-Canada’s Martin Leclerc delivered the report on Sunday, which has been called “speculation” by the Canadiens and been denied by Savard, but makes all kinds of sense to me and should to anyone remotely aware of what Savard would bring to the post. Leclerc explained that the Hall of Famer would seek the replacement for Pierre Gauthier, but the new general manager would report to Savard and the latter, of course, would report to owner Geoff Molson.

Get the picture? Clearly, although he would hold a different title, Savard, in effect, would be the real GM.
