from Tom Gulitti of The Record,
After taking some time to decompress following the Devils’ loss in the Stanley Cup Finals, Parise and his agent, Wade Arnott, plan to discuss strategy Monday and then move forward. Arnott said he expected to talk informally with Lamoriello at the draft, but nothing formal will happen until after that Monday strategy session.
That leaves plenty of time for Lamoriello to re-sign his captain before he is free to field offers from other teams – if that’s what he wants. Parise has repeatedly said his first choice is to remain a Devil, but, being so close to July 1, he might be curious to hear what others think of him.
It could be a once-in-a-career opportunity. Patrik Elias did it in 2006 and, after flirting with the Rangers, re-signed with the Devils. So, going to July 1 wouldn’t guarantee that Parise is a goner.
Regardless of what’s been written about the team’s financial situation — some of it true, some of it false — expect the Devils to make Parise a competitive offer. That won’t be enough, though.
