The NHL Made The Wrong Call On Thornton

from Jamie Baker of the Broadcasters Blog at Sharks.com,

What message is the NHL sending?

·      Playing with your head down is okay?

·      Being bigger is not okay – especially when your shoulder is at the same level as someone else’s chin?

·      Faking an injury after an apparent head contact hit is okay?

It is a trend that I am starting to see; players diving or faking injuries to draw penalties.  I have one quick solution to fix that – take the instigator penalty out of the game because it is protecting the divers.

Let’s look at the problem in another way.  What about Douglas Murray - how many times does he get boarded but there are not calls because he is 240 pounds and doesn’t fall down.

more and a piece on Wendel Clark too…

The NHL rejected Pronger’s physics dissertation in 2007.  Yesterday they rejected the Thornton correlary to Pronger Fizziks.  Size doesn’t matter, it’s the players responsibility to keep his elbow just as it’s the players responsibility not to hit the head on a blindside hit.

Wong call because Thornton is a “star”? And now he’ll be a repeat offender from here on out?

Go learn what a blind side hit is.

so i can skate up the ice with the puck and look to the right the whole time then if anyone hits me, its a blindside hit…  that doesn’t make any sense.  and its exactly what Perron was doing.

Has this joker (Jamie Baker) ever seen the SHark play?  They dive more than the majority of the teams out there.  What a whiner.
