The Latest On Luongo

via Aaron Portzline tweets,

Told by very good source #Canucks G Roberto Luongo has - to this point—declined to waive no-trade clause to go to #Blackhawks or #Leafs.

Only place Luongo is willing to be traded, as of today, is back to the Florida #Panthers.

If you are not aware, Luongo’s wife is from south Florida and still has family there.

added 10:14am, via Bob McKenzie tweets,

Lot of Luongo talk about waiving/not waiving NTC. Here’s my take: Process has yet to be that formal. His obvious preference is FLA, but..

if FLA doesn’t pan out, doors to TOR or elsewhere are not by any means closed. Step by step process that hasn’t be formalized in any way.

I wonder if it was the same source he got this tweet from? “Don’t know where this stands now, but over #NHLdraft weekend I heard G Roberto Luongo to Chicago, if the #Blackhawks could make $$$ work.”

With Markstrom in the pipeline, I can’t see why the Panthers would take on that contract. I’d think they’d rather go with Theodore/Markstrom and use that money elsewhere (such as D, where they only have four guys signed).

A year ago, this move would’ve made some sense for Florida from a PR standpoint (the prodigal son returns! buy $10 tickets now!), but with their playoff appearance, it seems like the market is heating up for them somewhat.

To say nothing of the realism of the Florida rumor, how great would it be if Luongo went back to Florida—a team that just made the playoffs and played quite well—and won the Cup there?

I personally think it would be ever better if he went to Florida -a team the just made the playoffs and played quite well- and they ended up missing the playoffs every year like they did when he was there last time.
