These Penguin posts are hysterical.  Some much whining and the excuses are pretty sad.  The talk about the Islanders owner, AHL coach, GM and that same group that put this team on the ice just beat the piss out of the Penguins, with their fists and their performance on the ice.  And don’t cry to me about injuries.  The Islanders lead the league in injuries.  Our all-star defensemen, Mark Streit hasn’t played a game this year.  Our top power forward and future captain, Kyle Opkoso didn’t start playing until 2 weeks ago.  We had our 4th string goalie in net tonight.  Comeau is out, Matteau is out, and Eaton is out.  Back in November we had our top 6 dmen out.  Streit, Amac, Martinek, Eaton, Jurcina and Matteau were all out at the same time.  There was no whining.  There was no excuses.  I think you Pittsburgers are a little soft, just like your team!!!

Your team is full of losers. Martin, Gillies, Konopka, Haley. All losers and pathetic human beings. It’s funny you call the Penguins soft when your team that employs a candy ass like Dipietro, who started this whole mess. Enjoy the basement of the NHL forever.

I have to wonder what Bylsma will say about victims being at fault for this one.

Yeah, but Andrew Ference is a shitty guy…

And by the way, if you want to talk about a disgrace for the sport, I have 2 words for you…Matt Cooke!!!  Dirtiest player in the league.  Goes out everytime to injure someone.  Somehow Penquins fans never bother to mention that.
By the way, how about that loser from Bridgeport undressing LeTang and then making Johnson look like a big idiot on that goal.  If he’s a Haley is a loser, that says volumes about LeTang and Johnson.  Both of their jocks were on the ice after that goal!! LMAO!!!

Haley’s a loser. You know it. I know it. And this isn’t about Cooke. Yes, he’s dirty. But this isn’t about him. This is about the Islanders treating this game like a real-life version of Slap Shot. Your team is full of losers. Your organization is full of losers. Your fans chanting ‘Crosby sucks’ while the kid sits at home with a ******* concussion. Losers. In one night, your team has surpassed the Flyers and Capitals as the most hated hockey team in Pittsburgh. I’d be embarrassed to be an Islanders fan tonight.

Some talk on Twitter about what this means for Bylsma, since Godard left the bench.

Per Rule 70:

The Coach(es) of the team(s) whose player(s) (including goalkeepers) left the players’ bench(es) or penalty bench(es)during an altercation shall be suspended, pending a review by the Commissioner. The Coach(es) also will be fined a maximum of ten thousand dollars ($10,000).

I’m guessing the commissioner doesn’t suspend Bylsma like he should…

Bylsma is suspended…pending review of the incident. He is being suspended as he should, albeit temporarily.

I’ll explain to you why the Islanders did what they did tonight.  It wasn’t so much the Johnson DP fight.  It was the Penguins bench after the fight.  Fleury and several Penguins laughing and giving high fives afterward.  That shows a complete disrespect of the other team (Islanders) and it’s totally arrogant!!!  Well guess what, the Pittsburgers got that arrogance knocked right out of them tonight.  The Pittsburgers will never be the same after this one.  Although I shouldn’t be so boastful, the Pittsburgers actually did us a favor by lighting a fire under the Islanders.  I think things are going to start to change on the Island!!!

My guess is the suspension is lifted before the next game, so long as the review finds that Godard acted on his own accord.  It’s not like rule 70 sets out a specific length for the suspension.

I don’t wholly disagree with that either.  I’m still pissed that all Bylsma had to say about the Cooke hit on Tyutin was that it was Tyutin’s fault for not turning around, but it’s not like the guy is Marc Crawford putting bounties on guys.

I just don’t like the team attitude of the Penguins this season.  They seem more goonish than in years past.

The Penguins were not laughing at Dipietro. Johnson was actually classy by holding back on Dipietro. He could have hit him a few more times, but actually patted him on the chest after he knocked him down. Watch the video. I have no idea where you get arrogance out of that fight.

Arrogance is a goof like Gillies talking trash to Tangradi as he lay on the ice with a concussion.

And how about holding your fragile-ass goaltender responsible? If he doesn’t hit Cooke, he doesn’t get his ass handed to him by Johnson.

The Pittsburgers will never be the same after this one.

Um, what? The Penguins will be getting healthy over the next two months and that hopefully includes Crosby. The Penguins will be a playoff team with a chance at the Cup if 87 is in the lineup.

I think things are going to start to change on the Island!!!

Not until Gillies, Martin, and Haley are removed from the team.

I don’t think Godard gets 10 games either. The wording is “any player who leaves the bench to start a fight.” Leaving the bench to grab a guy that has already been ejected but is is fighting the goalie doesn’t really fit that ruling.

This was a statement game for the Islanders and they needed it. They’ve been a joke for so long and it’s good that they’re sick of it. It’s not the players’ fault that management is so disfunctional. I wouldn’t be upset about the nonsense from them except for a few things

Martin. If you’re pissed about Talbot’s hit, fight him. Todd Burtuzzi’s actions are the single biggest public blight in NHL history. Repeating the outcome is something the league probably could not recover from.

Gilles should be tossed from hockey. I’ve never seen anyone make a rule48 hit (taking 16 steps first) and then throw punches at the unconscious guy.

Halberstrom or whatever his name is, needs a long suspension. When the referee tells you you’re out of the game, you don’t fight the goaltender.

true,

and speaking of Talbot and his cheapshot before; I understand that someone just clocks him,why should anyone challenge him to a fair fight? he was dirty,so he gets it back, simple. Why should players waste energy and risk injury by fighting a dirty player, just give him a taste of his own medicine and maybe he’ll learn

Tavares just gave back something to Leatang, maybe a bit too much, but Letang played scummy on him,so,....
I remember Talbot slashing Datsyuk just as he came back to play in 09 finals, right on the injured leg, puck was not even in sight and after the game Talbot claims he was playing the puck, that guy is scum so he gets what he deserves eventually. His action was far worse than what Tavares did last night.

Given Slap Shot climate of late, suspect NHL may make a statement with these. Maybe some in-person hearings (6 or more games). It should.

For someone that supposedly hates the Pens, you sure do post a lot about them.  And you just keep coming back.  Can’t help yourself.

Posted by J.J. from Kansas on 02/12/11 at 12:00 AM ET

J.J., I agree, but honestly, Bylsma is going to stick up for his players like any other coach would.  Honestly, it sucks that Ference got called out for being honest, but any coach in the league would say something similar to what Bylsma said.

The score happens.  Even the worst teams have games like this.  How bad do Kings fans feel after getting beat by this same Pens team the night before?

Last week the Pens beat the Isles down, physically and on the scoreboard.  Tonight the Isles returned the favor.  The two teams play again in April.  As long as this Pens MASH unit can stay at .500, the Pens will be in the playoffs.  The Isles will be staying at home, again, and they best dress this exact same roster when the teams meet again.  The Pens will be healthy by then, or close to it, and we’ll see what the score is that night.  Of course, if Matt Cooke sucker punches someone, Kunitz hits someone up high, concusses them, then throws punches, and someone goes after the Isles goalie, well, I’m sure everyone saying how great this is will change their tune.  I’m glad the Isles got their revenge.  When this is your best moment in a couple season, well, it just shows how bad your seasons have been.

Just watched the videos, and two thoughts:

1) Talbot was sucker-punched? Really? Seemed to me the guy just pushed him so to be face-to-face and start a fight, then Talbot fell down out of idiocy.

2) Penguins fans defend Godard for getting on ice to defend the goalie, even if Brent Johnson was going to hold his own anyway. Also, Godard’s punches made it a 2-on-1 fight, would you call that clean?

I hope the Islanders didn’t expect the Pens to be anything else. It is who they are. They are a team that is used to being favored. They know their star player is the main object of the Commissioner’s (professional) desire. They know the NHL salivates over the thought of them being in the SCF again and again.

The Pens are a protected group, they know it, and they occasionally take liberties on that knowledge.

1. Herm, what is a sucker punch in your opinion then?  Martin dropped his gloves, turned Talbot and punched.  He gave Talbot no chance to drop his gloves or even square around.

2. What Godard did was dirty.  I don’t understand how the refs let that happen though.  It’s also an unwritten rule that you don’t mess with a teams goalie.  It was dirty by Godard, but I’m not gonna say I’m upset that he stuck up for his goalie.

I might’ve said it wrong. What I meant is there’s no comparison between this play and the Steve Moore incident (as some claimed). Moore was attacked without warning, but Talbot had the chance to react, which he did by going down.

I’m not defendind the Islander, just saying it wasn’t as bad as people make it seem.

Sounds good Herm.  I wouldn’t compare it to that.  Talbot had a split second to react, fortunately, otherwise it would have been much worse.  It still has no place.  It will be interesting to see which suspensions come from this game.

This will get head shots out of the game.  I’m sure Talbot will think twice the next time.  Also I hate staged fights and think they have no place in the game.  These fights and the ones in Boston the other night were true spillovers of high emotions and are what makes the game such an emotional experience.  I’m glad to see a little old time hockey and less sqeaky clean corporate crap.

For what? A clean hip check in the last game. Some people have hatred that is blinding them right now of any logic. Martin could have asked him to fight like a man what have, but he tried to sucker-punch him like a coward.
