Kukla's Korner Hockey

The All-First Round Team

from Michael Traikos of the National Post,

As we prepare for the second round, here are two starting lineup’s worth of players that have stood out so far:

FIRST TEAM

Claude Giroux, Right Wing, Philadelphia
The reason the Flyers were able to trade captain Mike Richards and Jeff Carter last summer was because they had Giroux. He might not have been an NHL star back then, but there is no doubting he is amongst the best in the league now after a 93-point regular season and a playoff-leading six goals and 14 points against the Penguins.

Andy McDonald, Left Wing, St. Louis
Ok, hands up, who picked McDonald in their playoff pool? Not even Blues head coach Ken Hitchcock could have predicted that a player who missed 57 games this season with head and other injuries would be tied for third in scoring with four goals and four assists.

Hang on a second here.  Mike Smith, the man who single handedly got Phoenix past Chicago, doesn’t even make this guy’s 2nd team?  Maybe he should look at the stat sheet.  Smith had 143 more shots to stop than Brian Elliot, and Smith still had a better save percentage.  (Smith 241 shots against, Elliot 98 shots against)  You, sir, are a nincompoop.
