from Jim Matheson of the Edmonton Journal,
- Evgeni Malkin is beyond exasperated, going 12 games without a goal in Pittsburgh. He’s changed all of his equipment, but he looks like — dare I say it — Eric Belanger around the net. Mind you, Sidney Crosby has gone 10 straight games without scoring. There’s something very stale with the Penguins these days. Their record would have them 10th in the West.
- - The Minnesota Wild might be looking for an experienced backup with Nik Backstrom out with a concussion. Best bet: they bring back Jose Theodore, who was with Minnesota as Backstrom’s backup in 2010-11, and who is working out most days in a gym and skating in south Florida.
- - This rumour won’t die: The St. Louis Blues, with not a lot of money to play around with on the salary cap (at $63.9 million, which is 12th overall) will still make the biggest play for Buffalo Sabres goalie Ryan Miller at the trade deadline. Coach Ken Hitchcock and GM Doug Armstrong saw lots of Miller on Team USA at the 2010 Olympics as part of Canada’s management. If so, what happens to Jaroslav Halak?
