from Jason Botchford of the Vancouver Province,
The Vancouver Canucks’ future has never been brighter.
If a core of 18-goal scorers and No. 4 defencemen can win a Stanley Cup, they’re all set.
On the same day the Canucks fired the coach who developed their best young players, Canucks president Trevor Linden said this was the day he was more optimistic than at any time since he took the job.
Well, that makes one of us.
The Canucks are in the process of rebranding themselves and because of it are suffering from a credibility crisis.
Three years ago, the city was promised a quick turnaround for a team that would play an “up-tempo, fast skating, skilled game.” We are so far away from that type of team, the Canucks would have a better chance using a telescope to spot an orange in a crater on the moon than playing that way.
To be fair, Linden has always been more cautious with his words than GM Jim Benning, but that’s part of the problem. They’re essentially co-general managers and too often their messages have not synched.
