from Rich Chere of NJ.com,
So what is to be made of this season?
"We've taken a step. Not the step that we wanted to," goalie Cory Schneider suggested. "We were still alive with (four) games left in the season. It's not good good enough and by all means it's not acceptable by this group, but I think some guys made some leaps and some guys proved they can handle a bigger role on this team. So now we're going to have to figure out who is going to be part of this group going forward to get back into the playoffs."
Does coach John Hynes feel pleased that his team was able to stay in the race longer than many expected?
"Good question. Right now I haven't really thought about that," Hynes said. "I'm focused now on that we're still in the regular season. We'll reflect on some of that stuff when the season's over."
Three games to go, but no postseason for the Devils.
"Overall, you can look at it from different points of view, but it's unsuccessful. We didn't get in. We didn't give ourselves a chance," Henrique said. "We knew from experience you just have to get in, give yourselves a chance and anything can happen. We've seen that before and there are guys in here who have been a part of that."
