“The Rules Do Not Change During The Playoffs”

from Kerry Fraser of TSN,

The margin for victory between all the teams is very slim and mistakes made by players and officials are magnified at this time of year. Simply put, mistakes can be the difference between a team and an official from going on in the playoffs or going home!

Last night I joined James Duthie for a brief segment in the playoff preview show shot in Studio 9 at TSN where I will be monitoring games and officials' calls on a nightly basis throughout the first round. James asked me what I will be looking for from the Officials the moment the playoffs begin. My response was for strict adherence to the letter of the law. The rules do not change during the playoffs and neither should the expected standard of enforcement! The referees have often been accused of putting their whistles away during the playoffs. Far too many times we have seen the score and time of a game factored into the refs' judgment as to what constitutes an obvious penalty.

What a joke!  Everyone knows the standard changes because the refs “don’t want to decide the outcome.”  But nobody has the cojones to admit it.

It’s obvious he does not work for the nhl anymore. Only “professional” league in the world with a terrible joke of officiating.

I distinctly remember Dave Tibbet bitching about Holmstrom when the Wings played the Stars in the ‘08 playoffs.  The next game Holmstrom was penalized for the same thing that was apparently legal before Dave Tippet bitched about it.  So you can eat a big brown pile o’ my poop Carrie.

The rules might not change during the run to the cup, but they are loosely enforced (even moreso than the regular season) or outright overlooked.

In the past hasn’t the NHL instructed referees to pay extra attention to certain behaviors?  I remember as recently as last year the T.V. broadcasters talking about it.

So the rules may not change, but the interpretations certainly do.

Good rule of thumb to use:  Anything Kerry Fraser says is a lie.  Because Fraser is a lying sack of sh*t and nothing more.

This has already been shown to be complete bull s**t in the first two games on the very first night of the playoffs-BULL S**T!    The Pens are living proof the rules change in the playoffs (convenient last minute power plays ring a bell?)
