The Preseason Schedule For The NHL Teams

08/08/2017 at 3:16pm EDT

NEW YORK (Aug. 8, 2017) -- The first NHL games played in China, the debut of the Vegas Golden Knights and the opening of Little Caesars Arena, the new home of the Detroit Red Wings, highlight the 2017 NHL composite preseason schedule. The 16-day, 109-game slate begins Saturday, Sept. 16.

The Los Angeles Kings and Vancouver Canucks will face off in the first NHL games ever staged in China as part of the 2017 NHL China Games™ presented by O.R.G. Packaging. The two-game series between the Kings and Canucks will be played on Sept. 21 at Mercedes-Benz Arena in Shanghai (7:30 p.m. local/7:30 a.m., ET, SN, TVAS, NBCSN) and on Sept. 23 at Wukesong Arena in Beijing (3:30 p.m. local/3:30 a.m., ET, SN, TVAS).

The Golden Knights will take to the ice for their first NHL contest on Sept. 17, when they travel to Vancouver to face the Canucks at Rogers Arena. Vegas will make its home debut on Sept. 26, when it plays host to Los Angeles at T-Mobile Arena.

After bidding farewell last season to Joe Louis Arena, their home since 1979-80, the Red Wings will stage four preseason contests at their new downtown venue, Little Caesars Arena. The Red Wings will play host to longtime rivals in the Boston Bruins (Sept. 23), Pittsburgh Penguins (Sept. 25), Chicago Blackhawks (Sept. 28) and Toronto Maple Leafs (Sept. 29).

The people of Belle Vernon, Pa., winners of Kraft Hockeyville™ USA 2017 as the country's most passionate hockey community, will celebrate the grand prize when the two-time defending Stanley Cup champion Penguins and St. Louis Blues visit their community on Sept. 24. The Penguins and Blues will face off that night at the UPMC Lemieux Sports Complex in nearby Cranberry Township, Pa. (NBCSN, 8 p.m., ET).

The following day, the New Jersey Devils and Ottawa Senators head to O'Leary, P.E.I., winner of the Kraft Hockeyville competition from across Canada. The teams will square off that night at nearby Summerside, P.E.I. (SN, 7 p.m., AT/6 p.m., ET).

Other non-NHL communities playing host to preseason games are Allentown, Pa. (NY Islanders vs. Philadelphia, Sept. 20); Bridgeport, Conn. (NY Islanders vs. NY Rangers, Sept. 22); Kansas City, Mo. (Minnesota vs. St. Louis, Sept. 28); Quebec City, Que. (Montreal vs. Boston, Sept. 18, and Montreal vs. Toronto, Sept. 27); Saskatoon, Sask.
