from Bruce Garrioch of the Ottawa Sun,
The Senators left the rink stunned Saturday night as they dropped their fourth-straight at home with an ugly third period meltdown in a 4-1 loss to the Arizona Coyotes in front of 17,270.
The Coyotes beat Craig Anderson twice in a span of 1:28 in the third to hand the Senators the loss as only Cody Ceci was able to beat Arizona backup Anders Lindback on the 35 shots he faced. Mikkel Boedker had the hat-trick while Brad Richardson scored the winner as the Coyotes picked up their first regulation win in Ottawa since Dec. 12, 1998.
Coach Dave Cameron isn’t happy with the club’s work ethic.
“It’s our compete. It’s simple as that. You can’t have any habits if you don’t compete,” said Cameron. “I wish I could (explain the carryover from one home game to the next). I wish I had an answer to that.”
The Senators have also been hit hard by injuries and they’re mounting.
Already without injured winger Mike Hoffman, who is day-to-day with a lower body injury, the Senators learned later defenceman Marc Methot would miss his third straight with a concussion. He had been cleared to play but wasn’t in the warm-up and his spot was taken by Chris Wideman.
The hits kept on coming when winger Curtis Lazar, who has played in virtually every role up front for the club in the early-going, left the game after the first period with an upper body injury. He was hit from behind on a crosscheck by Zbynek Michalek and didn’t return for the start of the second.
