The Oilers Had To Do Something

from Terry Jones of the Edmonton Sun,

First, it announces to the long suffering fans of the Edmonton Oilers, who have watched their team finish 30th, 30th, 29th and 24th in the past four seasons, that once again it’s, “Wait ‘til next year.’

It declares the team has done the math and come to the realization finishing in the playoffs is already a massive mathematical improbability and for an eighth straight season they’ll be a bottom feeder again.

At the same time it’s also one of those “we gotta do something” deals you get when a team goes 4-11-2 to start the season.

The Oilers dealings Friday accomplished two things.

It freed up some cap space to make additional deals.

And it addressed the organizational goaltending disaster.

THE OILERS HAD TO DO SOMETHING.  However, in reality they did nothing except eat up some more cap space with the signing of the much travelled, inadequate Bryskalov.  The Calgary deal is hardly worth considering. Until the oil final realize that they must trade 1 or more of their “potential stars”, they are doomed to failure.  Same old same old, next year they will be a year older and will have added another top 5 pick.  HELP!!!!
