The New York Islanders Did Not Like The Tom Wilson Hit On Lubomir Visnovsky

from Dan Martin of the New York Post,

An already depleted Islanders defense was dealt another blow in the second period of Tuesday’s 2-1 overtime loss to the Capitals, when Lubomir Visnovsky had to leave the game after a crushing hit by Washington’s Tom Wilson.

Visnovsky didn’t return and the Islanders weren’t happy about the hit.

“He’s an idiot,” Kyle Okposo said of Wilson, who was hitting hard throughout the game and wound up being penalized twice nearly in succession in the second period. “That guy runs around, he hits reckless. He jumps, leaves his feet. There’s no place for that.”

Coach Jack Capuano wasn’t pleased, either.

“From the bench, from my view, [Wilson] left his feet,” Capuano said.

Nope.  I like Lubomir, but he stepped right into that one, and I didn’t think Wilson left his feet.

Looked like a clean hit to me.  Really hard, but he didn’t leave his feet until impact and even then, he didn’t go high.  I can’t speak for any of the other hits he threw, but that one was a nice classic freight train hit.

I hope Lubo’s okay.  Always liked him from way back in his Kings days.

Why don’t the Wings have a guy that can do that.  Even Abby doesn’t really hit his weight.  Only Helm hits above his weight, and not nearly so much since he moved to the scoring line.

Hard to fault Wilson for that.

That was an awesome hit, saw it in between periods of the Wings game last night.  Looked good then, looks good now.  Lubs set himself up for that one.  Just shitty that the play has to stop everytime there is a big hit, clean or not.

Well, Visnaovsky was down on the ice.  They had to stop if for that.
