The New Raffi Torres

from Ben Kuzma of the Vancouver Province,

Meet Raffi The Reformer. Or Raffi The Reformed. Take your pick.

When your reputation precedes you and results in six career supplemental disciplines, any pledge to reform receives a doubting roll of the eyes because talk it easy. Change is hard. For Raffi Torres to remain effective — without leaving his feet and targeting the head on those heavy and suspendable hits — the Phoenix Coyotes winger would have to wrap his head around where the league is going or it would leave the pending unrestricted free agent and others like him behind. Far behind.

“I’m at the right point now,” Torres said in advance of Thursday’s meeting with the Vancouver Canucks.

Amazing isn’t it?
Both Cooke and Raffi have now been reformed so they are no longer threats to end another players career or life.
And what did it take? Not fighting. Letting the players police themselves didn’t do crap as both would happily drop the mitts to ‘answer the bell’ for their transgressions.

It took a very large and lengthy suspension.

I sure wish the NHL would wise up to this. Have a problem with a player? Suspend the crap out of them. Fighting doesn’t prevent dirty plays at all.
