from Brendan Kelly of the Montreal Gazette,
So what needs to be done? I believe that the man with the snappy suits running the team should be told he can spend all of his time at the Grinder resto and to not bother coming back to the office. But, clearly, Molson is not ready to fire his GM and I am in agreement with RDS analyst François Gagnon that Molson will give Bergevin another year to right this Titanic-like ship.
In that case, there is only one rational course of action and that is for Molson to hire a president of hockey operations. There has been an enormous amount of chatter about this recently and one of the big talking points this week was the “news” that NBC/TSN analyst Pierre McGuire was open to the idea of becoming president of hockey operations for the Habs.
Let’s just nip that one in the bud. McGuire has an extraordinary knowledge of hockey and he was on the final list candidates before Molson made the call to hire Bergevin. But I have a gut feeling that Molson will not be hiring McGuire. And that’s the right call. Despite McGuire’s talk, he doesn’t have a lot of experience as an NHL coach or manager. What Molson needs is someone who’s had success managing an NHL team and bring in this person to be the manager between him and Bergevin.
