The Latest Trade Talk

Any Takers?

TSN Hockey Insider Pierre LeBrun of ESPN.com told RDS.ca that Montreal Canadiens GM Marc Bergevin has informed the other 29 NHL teams that winger Rene Bourque is available.

Bourque has two more season left on his contract at a cap hit of $3.3 million per season.

Green Means Go?

According to Mike Wise of The Washington Post, it may be time for the Washington Capitals to move defenceman Mike Green. Wise says Green could still bring the Capitals something good in return, maybe even a veteran tough guy, a defensive defenceman for a change.

According to Wise, it may take several trades, but seeing as how Nicklas Backstrom and Alex Ovechkin are understandably untouchable, Green is the one who can bring the most back now. For both parties involved, he should be moved for the right player or players as soon as George McPhee can get it done.

Ken Holland should trade for Mike Green.
He would make an immediate upgrade in the Wings’ D, and getting on a well- coached team, away from the personality cult of Washington would improve his game.

w2, Green has a cap hit of just over $6M for this season and next.  I would hope the Wings could find a better option.

I would hope that Detroit would concentrate on trying to find a defenseman who knows how to play defense, rather than just a forward who stands on the blue line.

Green could help provide offense (needed), but this comes at the sacrifice of Defensive coverage.  Green’s +/- is worse than Quincey’s.

Green was the number 1 offensive defenseman in the game for 2 straight years. He would be a huge upgrade to our pp. especially since he is a right handed shot. His defensive woes are exposed on an offensively driven team in Washington and he would be much better under Babcock and our system.  Trade Jurco, and a 2nd round pick for him, NOW!

Whoa whoa whoa.  Simmer down there.  No chance on Jurco, and the Wings don’t have the cap space.  They’d have to trade a couple players who are actually making money just to clear the space.

Detroit needs defensive help more than anything else.  Offensive help will come when the team is healthy, but even healthy they aren’t good enough defensively.

I would hate it if they traded for Green.  It would be terrible.

Jurco and a 2nd falls juuuuuuuuuuuuuuuust a little shy of creating the dollar-for-dollar cap space the Wings need to move in order to make this trade.

Remember we would only owe half his cap hit for this year. Not to mention the Wings production from the backend is nonexistent. We finished last year top 5 defensively with essentially the same defenseman. With Howard and Gus finally stringing together some solid goaltending what we truly need is offensive help from the backend. Besides Kronwall who has the ability to run a PP? Green would be an ideal fit on this team.

Remember we’ve been using the LTIR exception to exceed the cap for nearly the entire season, so there’s no banked room for an extra $3M in salary pickups.

If the Wings were to trade for Green, run don’t walk away from them.

Sure there is, demoting Kindl, Lashoff and eaves, and you’re there.

Demoting Kindl, Lashoff, and Eaves leaves the Red Wings with six defensemen on their roster and exposes both Kindl and Eaves to waivers.

You may as well throw them into this trade while we’re making up stuff that would never happen.

Lol. Yep, throwem in to. Make this team better.

Eaves getting some time in GR I think improved his game. He looks faster and more hungry. Kindl is a pretty boy. Lashoff seems better defensively than Q or Kindl, soo…. I don’t think I would drop him quite yet.

Cool, now lets get George McPhee on the line to offer this trade package.

I truly wonder about Holland’s involvement when rumors like this swirl. It’s been so long since we’ve seen the Red Wings make a deal.

Why settle for Green when we can probably pry Weber away from Nashville by offering Tootoo and a 6th?

Agreed Garth.

Speaking of Weber, I wonder if Nashville would trade him and for how much.  His cap hit is $8 a year and I don’t recall Nashville being a spending type team.  With the recent NYR trade and having Seth Jones, their defense is probably going to be solid for a while.

I don’t know that a better time could come for Nashville to trade him for scoring forwards.

Probably the only better time than right now would be this off-season.  With the cap sure to go up and everyone having expiring contracts there will probably be a ton of competition for him should Nashville put him on the market.

it would take a ton of assets to pry out weber from nashville.  The way Webers contract is set out is that he would get a 13 million dollar signing bonus for the first 4 years and a 1 million dollar annual salary.  considering the lock out ended in January last year, and the signing bonus he recieved for the 2013/14 season as well, Nashville has already ponied out more then 26 million to Weber in less than a full calendar year.  Furthermore, the compensation for weber should they have declined to match was 4 first round picks, so I highly doubt the preds would settle for anything just slightly above that and it would have to be a home run for them in terms of assets to pry weber out of nashville, especially after they just gave the guy 26 million in signing bonuses in a matter of 11 months.
