from Terry Jones of the Edmonton Sun,
The predicted playoff atmosphere was in place with the first playoff-volume ‘Go Oilers, Go’ recorded in the second minute of play.
And for a while there, it was like the first Flames-Oilers game of the season here, when Mikko Koskinen served up a shutout and Connor McDavid scored the only goal in a 1-0 win.
Despite Koskinen stopping all 16 shots in the first period Saturday, and making one of the most incredible saves of the season with a behind-his-back glove-hand grab that was so close to being over the goal line behind him that it required a video review, it all came undone in the second period as the Flames scored the first three goals of the game.
That didn’t mean the Oilers or the atmosphere went away.
Edmonton scrambled back into the game to make it 3-2 when Koskinen made another five-bell save on a breakaway and Milan Lucic went down to the other end to score his fourth goal of the month, double his 2018 total and draw the Oilers close.
The crowd was with them to the end.
But a loss is a loss and for the first time since the Oilers moved into their new downtown hockey palace, the Flames were allowed to leave the place with a win.
Game highlights of Edmonton's 5-2 loss to Calgary can be watched below.
