from Jim Matheson of the Edmonton Journal,
The scoreboard will say Edmonton Oilers goalie Cam Talbot lost Saturday’s game for his team with 8.7 seconds left when Calgary winger Michael Frolik found a hole the size of loonie under Talbot’s arm with a prayer shot. The dumb-founded Frolik had his first-ever hat-trick.
But, the Oilers also lost it in the first 20 minutes against a team playing their fifth game in seven nights, a team that should have been roadkill but jumped to a 3-1 lead.
They lost late because Talbot made a mistake which had him sitting in the dressing room post-game, his head in his hands in abject dismay. But they also lost it early because nobody rests on their laurels like the Oilers.
They were fat and sassy after their comeback two nights earlier against the Montreal Canadiens when they fell behind 3-zip. But in Saturday’s statement game where they could have separated themselves from their Alberta rivals, they didn’t get it done.
Shame on them. Enough baby steps about learning how to win.
Just win, baby. Kick a team when they down.
